In the Mix: Round 20
Will Brad Scott and his match committee opt for stability and a final tilt at September? Or will he mix things up?
With just four matches remaining the Roos are playing their best football of the year, but there could still be temptation to swing changes. Some players are fighting to be fit and prove their availability, while others are putting their hand up in the VFL.
Will Scott and his match committee opt for stability and a final tilt at September? Or will he mix things up?
NMFC.com.au looks at those in line for a recall. Have your say on the potential changes below.
Nathan Grima
The key-defender copped a knock against Melbourne and missed the clash against Geelong, but could be in line for a return.
Nevertheless, he’ll have to prove his fitness at training on Thursday, and a strong performance from his replacement Luke Delaney makes for an interesting selection dilemma.
The Crows are also struggling for tall options due to injury, so a smaller line-up could be on the cards.
Cameron Delaney
After showing good signs in his only senior game of 2013, Delaney succumbed to a toe injury and was a late withdrawal last week.
The club has signaled it will monitor his progress, with early surgery an option, though given his promising form managing the injury and continuing to play isn’t out of the question.
Sam Wright, who came in as his replacement last week is a different type of player, so the decision on whether he’s included could be structural more than anything.
Daniel Currie and Majak Daw
The outstanding work of Todd Goldstein in the ruck will make the task of breaking in difficult for Werribee’s ruck pair, but if Scott is looking to stretch the Crows’ either could be an option.
Sam Jacobs and Shaun McKernan combined for 50 hit-outs last week, so an extra hand to assist Goldstein is a possibility.
Liam Anthony and Levi Greenwood
The midfielders look ready to go, but will find it difficult to break in given the form of North’s onballers.
While Anthony had a quieter game for the Roosters, his recent form has been good enough to be considered.
Overlooked for a spot last week in favour of Ben Jacobs, Greenwood will no doubt be giving it his all to stake a claim, although Werribee’s bye didn’t give him a chance to impress on the weekend.
Michael Firrito and Scott McMahon
The experienced Firrito will have enjoyed the week’s rest with Werribee’s bye, and will be hoping to put his name up for a recall.
After a quiet game a fortnight ago McMahon will be back with a point to prove this weekend.
But the greatest challenge is finding who they’ll replace. North’s defenders were fantastic against the Cats, and any of the back six would be unlucky to be omitted.
Kieran Harper
The youngster would have to be an outside chance given he played in the Roosters’ VFL development squad last week (Werribee bye), but with some valuable game-time under his belt and added confidence he looks to be edging closer.
He has plenty of x-factor, something that can be vital on the road.
