North Melbourne has secured the signature of another emerging player, with Aaron Mullett putting pen to paper on a new deal.

The 21-year-old, who has been one of the success stories of 2013 with his run and carry from defence has committed to the club until the end of 2015.

"It's fantastic news. He's obviously been playing some good footy this year," North assistant coach Shane Watson told NMFC.com.au on Thursday.

"He looks like a guy who's playing with confidence and it's great that the club has rewarded him."

Mullett has averaged over 20 possessions a game this year, and was handed a NAB Rising Star nomination after a strong performance in Round 2.

He had a career-high 31 disposals against St Kilda in Sunday's big win.

"Fishy's really complemented the other guys in the back-line. We're not relying on only Shaun Atley to do the run and carry.

"The combination with Shaun on the right foot, and Aaron on the left has worked well. Guys that can kick the footy well are that important these days, so with him back there it adds to our efficiency, and you know that more times than not it's not going to come back."

In and out of the side last season, Mullett's stability in the team has come from improving his output over four quarters.

"The one thing he said in his end of year meeting (in 2012) was that he'd like to get more consistency in his game," Watson added.

"He's been able to play on those dangerous small forwards and he's not getting goals kicked on him.

"Obviously he's a naturally attacking player, but the real lockdown defensive, beat your opponent first approach is what we've been working on with him. He's done that, and he's managed to get the footy as well."

Mullett joins Tom Curran and Sam Wright as players who have re-signed with the club in the past month.
