North Melbourne will be looking to bounce back from a “disappointing” performance against the Swans, when it takes on Hawthorn on Sunday night.
Rhyce Shaw’s team has an eight-day break in order to work on what went wrong at Marvel Stadium, but Jed Anderson believes it’s an easy fix.
“We just didn’t play to our standard of footy,” Anderson told SEN.
“We set a high standard the week before and we wanted to play that brand of footy; that real hard, contested brand of footy … we didn’t bring that on the weekend.”
After a promising start, the Roos were outworked and out-pressured by Sydney for much of the day. A strong finish provided plenty to work off for this week though.
“It shows on the day, if you don’t come to play, you get beaten,” Anderson said.
“We did all our preparation right, we just didn’t come out on the day.
“We reviewed it yesterday and went through what didn’t work for us and why we didn’t come out to perform.
“It was bits and pieces all over the ground.
“We broke it down and worked through what we need to fix. We’ll train it tomorrow.”
North’s task doesn’t get any easier this week, coming up against a Hawks’ side that defeated the reigning premiers, Richmond.
With two wins from three games, the Roos are sitting sixth on the AFL table. A win this week vital in a shortened season.
“It is a big challenge and we’re going to train this week ready to bring that intensity and brand of footy we want to play this weekend,” Anderson added.
North defeated Hawthorn by 22 points in the teams’ last meeting, in Round 20 last year.
