When VIPs and dignitaries roll through the doors at Aegis Park, Majak Daw is always front and centre, placing down the welcome mat for The Huddle.

Recently the forward met with Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, who hand delivered a $50,000 contribution from the Federal Government to assist with North’s innovative community programs.

“I know what The Huddle achieves every day but it’s important we encourage people like the Attorney-General to come down and see for themselves,” Daw said.

“This level of support is fantastic for everyone involved but mainly for the students and families that come in every week.”

It was Dreyfus’ first visit to The Huddle and it left a lasting impression.

“We all know sport is a powerful unifier in our diverse communities and this funding will continue to support the innovative work being done at the Huddle,” he said.

“The Huddle programs increase opportunities for participation for newly arrived and migrant youth and raises cross cultural awareness to enable organisations to provide more sporting opportunities for people in our community.”

North CEO Carl Dilena said the club was delighted to receive such incredible support and recognition.

“We are grateful for the assistance and support of the Attorney-General and the government to boost the work we are doing in The Huddle,” Dilena said.

“It’s vital we have the ability to continue to improve social cohesion and break down the cultural barriers within our society and this kind of financial assistance goes a long way to helping us achieve those goals.”

The new grant, under the Federal Government’s Diversity and Social Cohesion Program, will assist The Huddle in strengthening young people from in around the North Melbourne area through sport and education.
