North Melbourne is pleased to announce Geoff Walsh will return to the club as director of football.

A former head of football and chief executive officer at the Kangaroos, Walsh has agreed to terms on an exciting new deal.

“Geoff is without a doubt, the most sought after director of football in the competition and to entice him back to North Melbourne is a tremendous coup for our club,” North CEO Carl Dilena said.

“Geoff’s decision to return, further enhances our position as an exciting place to be with enormous upside and potential.”

Walsh is one of the most highly respected football administrators in the competition and most recently worked with Collingwood, helping the club win a Premiership in 2010.

Walsh’s appointment comes on the back of a raft of significant signings announced at last night’s Syd Barker Medal.

At Crown, Brad Scott told a room full of loyal North supporters the club had extended Ben Cunnington’s contract until 2017, Lindsay Thomas’ to 2016 and was also poised to obtain the services of assistant coach Leigh Tudor, development manager Ben Dyer and tackling coach John Donehue.

“The message to our supporters is clear; we are on the right track and these recent announcements are proof of that fact,” Dilena added.

“Geoff will bring an enormous amount of expertise, knowledge and leadership to our club and we are delighted to have him back.”

Under the Roos’ new Football Department structure, Jon Haines will remain general manager of football operations and Cameron Joyce retains list management.  Donald McDonald will complete his transition into the commercial area of the business.
