For those feeling deflated and already counting down the days until the start of the 2014 season, Majak Daw has discovered the perfect fillip.

The Roos are about to launch a North 9s competition at Aegis Park and the emerging star believes it’s the perfect footy-fix.

β€œIt’s a really exciting version of Aussie Rules that everyone can enjoy,” Daw said.

β€œIf I was allowed, I’d definitely be doing it.”

The competition is based on a fast, free flowing nine-a-side game on a 100-metre long field.

β€œIt’s a great way to get fit and have fun with friends.  There’s no contact, which means you don’t have to be worried about getting hit like I do every week,” Daw joked.

With no tackling or bumping, the game is attractive to men and women of all ages and skill levels.

The first ball is still to be bounced, but North 9s has already received praise for engaging with local multicultural communities by providing umpiring roles to young refugees.

β€œI think it’s great the club is involving the multicultural community and it’s the ideal way to introduce them to AFL.

β€œFrom my own experiences, footy was the one thing that really made me feel like I belonged and this competition will be great for so many young migrants and refugees to make friends and get involved.”

The competition will begin in mid-November and is open to everyone.
