Scott McMahon has declared himself fit and ready for an AFL return after successfully negotiating a tricky week following an ankle injury.

The experienced defender was set a challenge on the road to recovery with a trip interstate and two matches inside the space of a week.

Playing with the Werribee Tigers, McMahon flew to Perth for the Foxtel Cup on Tuesday night and then suited up again in black and yellow to take on Casey on Sunday.

“I think the biggest concern from a North Melbourne point of view was my fitness and whether I’d be able to get through a game after doing my ankle a few weeks ago,” McMahon told NMFC.com.au after the Tigers’ 56-point victory over Casey.

“Today I showed that I could run out a game and have an impact without any concerns.”

Despite the hectic schedule, the 27-year-old says his ankle pulled up better than expected.

“It felt pretty good out there and it feels fine right now.  I can’t see any swelling or anything, which is a good sign.  It still feels exactly like it did at the start of the game, which is pleasing.

“I felt like I was running pretty well and the boys had a really good win which makes it even better.”

While the conditions in Werribee weren’t ideal with some rain and high winds, McMahon says it was nothing compared to the torrential downpour in Perth.

“Last week, the Foxtel Cup wasn’t the best game to come back in because we were pretty much underwater and swimming for most of the night.”

The statistics show a 16-possession, one goal game, but the win and clean bill of health are all that matters.

“Today, I thought I was changing direction well and had some speed in my running.

“Now, I’ll recover as best as possible, put my hand up to play on Friday night and see what happens.”
