Daniel Currie's next step
Daniel Currie says he's focussed on becoming a more versatile player.
"I prefer to play in the ruck but I think I need to show a bit up forward as well to force my way into the side which is why I want to spend some more time forward," Currie told NMFC.com.au.
"In terms of looking at it from a senior perspective, trying to make them play two ruckmen, I think I need to be able to contribute up forward.
"These days you need to be able to play anywhere so you can be versatile in any scenario throughout a game."
After making his comeback for Werribee after three weeks on the sidelines, the 24-year old said he felt good despite the painful bruised heel he had sustained.
"The heel wasn't from a specific incident, it just sort of built up over time, it was a bit sore when I came back from the thumb injury and then over the next couples of games it just flared up," Curie said.
"It was pretty frustrating because all I could do was stay off it until it improved, but I got through training this week pretty well and hopefully I can build on this step forward today."
A tough three-point loss to the Coburg Tigers in cold and muddy conditions wasn't the ideal situation for the North big-man, but Currie was appreciative for the extra soft surface when searching for a positive.
"The heavier, softer deck probably helped with cushioning and landing a bit on the body which is a good thing because it's a pretty heavy ground out there with the conditions.
"It was disappointing to fall short. Our start cost us, trying to play catch up all day. I thought we fought out valiantly, but unfortunately we started pretty disappointingly and that's what cost us the game in the end."
Despite his injury setbacks, Currie only has one thing on his mind; to make his AFL debut.
"We've got six weeks to go so hopefully I can get a bit of continuity going and the goal is still to force my way into the side, so I'm aiming to do whatever I can to get there."
