Brad Scott has lauded the contribution made to North Melbourne by former Werribee coach Scott West.

The AFL Hall of Fame member worked closely with the Kangaroos during his time as head coach of the successful VFL side.

“It can be a pretty difficult task being affiliated with an AFL club because you have to balance the interests of two organisations but Westy, although intent on winning a flag, was extremely accommodating and always willing to work with us,” Scott said.

“He played a crucial role, along with the other Tigers’ coaching staff, in helping to develop our players and prepare them for AFL footy.  Luke McDonald, our father/son selection, is a prime example.”

West spent the past two years at Avalon Airport Oval before advising the club he intended to look for other opportunities.  He’s already been linked to a possible return to the Bulldogs as its new stand-alone VFL coach.

“Westy’s record speaks for itself and he’s shown a real strength in developing individuals and he knows how to get the best out of players.”

The Tigers achieved successive preliminary finals under West and have appointed John Lamont as his successor.
