As the countdown continues to North Melbourne's clash with Sydney, NMFC.com.au presents stats and facts relating to the two clubs.
- Blundstone Arena will be the eighth different ground the two teams have faced-off on since South Melbourne moved to Sydney in 1982.
The other seven grounds are Arden Street, the SCG, the MCG, Visy Park, Manuka Oval, Etihad Stadium and ANZ Stadium.
- North's streak of seven games without a win against Sydney is its longest current run against any team.
The Kangaroos only other multi-game losing streaks are against Hawthorn (two) and West Coast (four).
- Inaccuracy has been costly for North in its last four games against Sydney. It has kicked 34 goals, 59 behinds at a conversion rate of just 36.6 per cent.
- In 13 career games against the Swans, former Roo and now Sydney coach John Longmire kicked 44 goals. He booted six or more goals in three of those matches.
Jock Spencer (69) and Wayne Carey (55) are the only players ahead of Longmire for most-career goals against Sydney.
- North's highest ever score of 35.19.229 came against Sydney in Round 6, 1993 at Princes Park.
On that day Adrian McAdam kicked a career-high 10 goals, while Longmire added nine. Anthony Rock had 28 disposals and Carey 26 to go with his three goals in what was Denis Pagan's sixth game as senior coach.
- Todd Goldstein's career-high of 53 hit-outs came against Sydney in Round 10, 2011 at Etihad Stadium.
Goldstein came up against Mark Seaby on that afternoon. All up North had a 63-23 hit-out advantage which led to a 41-29 clearance edge. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Swans saluted by a solitary point.
- In 152 total meetings, the two clubs have only met twice in finals.
The head-to-head record is split, with North beating Sydney in the 1996 Grand Final. The Swans boast the most recent win, coming in the 2008 Elimination Final at ANZ Stadium.
- Sydney is the only team North is yet to defeat under Brad Scott.
Aside from John Longmire, there are just two other current coaches Scott is yet to win against; Ross Lyon and Mick Malthouse.
- Second quarters were North's best at Blundstone Arena in 2012. The Kangaroos only conceded one goal across the two outings.
- North's most inaccurate performance in its history of 3 goals, 18 behinds was against Sydney in Round 18, 2001.
After two thrilling games against the eventual Grand Finalists in Essendon and Brisbane, North had used up all its petrol tickets in a late season surge.
- North's third-highest ever final term comeback (40-points) came against Sydney in Round 19, 2004.
Nine goals to two in the final term did the job in Glenn Archer's 250th game. Corey Jones kicked the match-winner from the boundary line deep into time-on to cap the comeback.
