The AFL has announced its heat policy will come into effect for Saturday afternoon's game between North Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Both teams will be allowed a six-man interchange bench instead of the usual three interchange and three subs for NAB Cup matches, while the interchange cap will not apply for the clash at Tony Ireland Stadium.

Quarter lengths will be reduced and the teams will enjoy longer breaks with temperatures tipped to hit 33 degrees celsius and humidity levels expected to reach around 80 per cent.
