Todd Goldstein’s 39 hit-outs, 20 possessions and two goals on Saturday had him judged as the best player on the ground by Brad Scott and Alan Richardson.

The North Melbourne ruckman played a large role in his side’s early dominance. Both Goldstein’s goals were in the first term and the Roos enjoyed a 12-5 hit-out edge in the quarter.

Sam Wright’s second consecutive quality outing was rewarded with eight votes, his first of the season. A week after neutralising Luke Breust, Wright did the same to talented youngster Jack Billings.

Billings was largely ineffectual while Wright collected a game high 30 disposals and 10 marks. North’s upcoming opponent, Carlton, has numerous small and medium forwards who can turn a game, meaning Wright has every chance of an important role for a third successive week.

Brent Harvey extended his lead at the top of the North Melbourne leaderboard while maintaining his place in the top 10 overall. His three votes came from another quality performance of 27 disposals, six inside 50’s and two goals.

The skipper’s work in and under was also rewarded as Andrew Swallow earned three votes. His eight clearances and seven tackles set the tone for how North approached the afternoon at Blundstone Arena.

After easing his way back into AFL football following his long layoff, Swallow has now collected at least 22 disposals in each of his last three outings.

Michael Firrito and Sam Gibson each polled one vote against the Saints.
