The Kangaroos wore the strip in the win over West Coast at Patersons Stadium last weekend, but indigenous forward Lindsay Thomas has pushed for his team to wear the guernsey in front of the club's home supporters.
The unusual request has the backing of the playing group, who are keen to pull on the Sarrita King-designed strip once again.
"Lindsay Thomas has put in a direct request to the AFL to wear our indigenous jumper again," North coach Brad Scott said on Thursday.
"Sarrita King did a great job with the design, we think. We're a little biased, but we think it's the best indigenous jumper in the competition and we really want to wear it in front of our home supporters.
"The boys are really keen to wear it again and pay homage to our fantastic indigenous heritage.
"I think it's an important round and the round fell interstate for us, which was fantastic for our Perth supporters β we've got a lot of supporters over there β but we'd like to wear it in front of our home supporters as well."
The jumper, which features a giant Kangaroo paw print on the front has been one of the clubβs most popular items.
King worked worked closely with Thomas and Daniel Wells on the concept.
North has been inundated with questions about Sarrita and is happy to provide the following information and photos below.
Sarrita King was born in Adelaide and is the younger sister to fellow artist, Tarisse King and daughter to the late and highly regarded
artist, William King Jungala (1966 - 2007).
Sarrita spent most of her youth growing up in Darwin in the Northern Territory. Her exposure to the imperious weather and extreme landscape has provided the theme for her works of art.
Stylistically, Sarrita, 26, utilises traditional Aboriginal techniques such as βdottingβ but also incorporates unorthodox techniques inherited from her late father, as well as self-developed practices. Her art is a fusion of the past, present and future and she creates frenetic energy on the canvas with her Lightning series and searing heat with her Fire series.
Purchase the Indigenous guernsey at a special open training session on Saturday at Arden Street from 11.30am.
