Mitch Wilkins will return to Simonds Stadium for the first time since his 20 disposal, 100 per cent efficiency game early in 2013.

It was in the corresponding game last year that Wilkins first showed his talent and he’s looking forward to getting down the highway again with North Ballarat.

“The VFL side plays a similar brand to the AFL side so it’s a great challenge for us to play against them. Obviously with the direct link between the sides it’s easier to get the same style going through both teams.

“Geelong’s a good side and it’s a good place to play at Simonds. The surface is great quality so I can’t wait to get down there.”

Given the way players tend to string together quality performances at a certain ground, it would be no surprise to see Wilkins play another strong match. He was level-headed when speaking about what he wanted to gain out of the practice match before looking at bigger plans.

“It would be nice to go at 100 per cent every week but realistically I want to get a bit of confidence out of the game and keep progressing well through the practice matches.

“Ideally this season my goal is to get a senior game and make my debut. I’ll have to keep working hard on my game though to break into the side.”

Wilkins will be joined in the Roosters’ side by at least five other North-listed players, with the potential for more depending on who the emergencies are for the senior side later in the night.

Two of the three emergencies will play VFL football with either North Ballarat or Werribee depending on their alignment.

The Tigers will play a second consecutive practice match at Arden Street on Saturday afternoon, this one against Williamstown.

Focus will be on the forward line, as Majak Daw, Ben Brown and Mason Wood all work together in the front half. After tough conditions last week, the trio will be hoping for calmer surroundings on Saturday to allow for better delivery.

For those travelling down to Arden Street on Saturday, memberships and merchandise will be available until 1:00pm, which is when the Werribee senior game begins.
