Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs says he's looking forward to his crucial battle with Todd Goldstein on Saturday night.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Jacobs was complimentary towards the in-form Roo.

"It's going to be big. I love playing against Goldy because we've had plenty of good battles," Jacobs said.

"It will be important for the game. Hopefully I can get my hand to it and give our midfield first use. Making sure we're playing in our forward half is going to be important."

With just three months age difference between them, the two have had similar rises through AFL ranks.

Both have been the number one ruckman for their respective clubs since 2011 and Jacobs appreciates the likenesses.

"We're pretty comparable in the way we came through together and the way we like to play.

"He's a really good competitor, hopefully I can get him on a bad day. He's very strong around the contest and that's the main thing I've got to compete with."

In last year's meetings, Goldstein took the honours in Round 9 before Jacobs got revenge at AAMI Stadium in Round 20.
