Match 13
Shaun Atley dummies Scott Pendlebury (Round 5) v Robin Nahas’ perfect tackle (Round 9)
It’s not often that a player of Scott Pendlebury’s calibre gets turned inside out, but it’s exactly what Shaun Atley achieved in Round 5 against the Magpies.
Running off half back, Atley went right, then left, then right again, before running past the back of Pendlebury.
When he was able to take the field in 2014, Nahas’ forward pressure proved extremely valuable for North Melbourne.
It was on show in the opening minutes against Brisbane at Etihad Stadium. Nahas pinned Trent West in a perfect tackle, pinning the arm and making it impossible for the Lions’ ruckman to dispose of the ball.
Match 14
Lachlan Hansen courageous mark (Round 2) v Sam Wright’s intercept mark (Elimination Final)
Hansen’s marking is arguably the best feature of his game as a defender, and it was on show against the Western Bulldogs.
Going back with the flight of the ball, Hansen was attempting to stop Liam Jones from having a clear run and mark. Normally in that situation, the defender ends up acting as a stepladder. In this case, Hansen was able to take a courageous, clean mark and rebound from 50.
It was the moment that changed the course of the Elimination Final. With Essendon seemingly about to stream into an open goal with numbers, Jobe Watson was a second away from marking on the half forward line.
Out of nowhere, Wright appeared. Reading the flight of the ball perfectly, the North defender cut in front of the Essendon captain, marked and set North forward to begin a rapid fire succession of goals.
