Highly regarded football expert Mike Sheahan’s pre-season top 50 has been released and three Kangaroos have made the cut.

Scott Thompson leads the Roos at #22, with Daniel Wells at #41 and Jack Ziebell at #44.

While Sheahan admitted he found it tough to leave out Todd Goldstein and Nick Dal Santo, three North players in the top 50 is still a good reflection of the external thoughts on the playing list.

When discussing how he picked the pre-season list, Sheahan explained it was more ‘pure’ than his post-season rankings.

“At the start of the season it’s the purist’s view. Everyone’s fit, everyone’s going to play at their best, they’re all up against the school wall.

“The 50 blokes that I pick win games of footy. I know in the reality you need someone to run with the good players, but I do reserve the pre-season top 50 for the blokes who (win games) in a pure sense.”

The last time a Kangaroo made the top three in a Sheahan pre-season top 50 was in 2001, when Wayne Carey ranked third.

Sheahan also noted he couldn’t squeeze captain Andrew Swallow in due to injury.
