A stunning effort for North Ballarat has catapulted Trent Dumont into AFL contention with North Melbourne naming him in its 25-man squad.

The 18-year-old, nicknamed Froggy, could play his first senior game against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday evening after collecting 32 disposals and 9 clearances for the Roosters.

“He was excellent. That’s the best game I’ve seen him play this year. His work in tight was just outstanding. It was as good as I’ve seen in tough conditions.” Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown said after the match last Saturday.

“His spread was really good, he tackled well, his intensity across the whole game was just excellent – it was a great game. He’s beginning to have really elite touch at the stoppages.”

Also called up for the first time is Ben Brown. The talented Tasmanian could fill a forward/ruck spot if he stays on the list when the final team is announced. Brad McKenzie is a chance to return to the side for his first game since Round 7 against Gold Coast.

Brad Scott and the match committee have resisted the urge to swing the axe despite the club’s disappointing loss to Adelaide. No omissions have been made at this stage.
