Brown's forward mentor
Ben Brown says the presence of an experienced team-mate helped him find his feet at Arden Street.
It can be an intimidating task trying to make your way at a new club, but Ben Brown says the presence of an experienced team-mate helped him find his feet at Arden Street.
Little over six months after meeting Drew Petrie in Utah, the pair lined up next to each other in the Kangaroos’ forward-line on Sunday.
“He’s just been fantastic for me ever since I got to the club,” Brown told the team on Crocmedia’s Sportsday program.
“It’s really good when you are a young bloke coming into the system and not quite sure where you fit in, you know that you can always call for someone the calibre of Drew Petrie, and he treats you with just as much respect as anyone else. That’s really comforting.
“Any question I ask he’s always there with an answer. He’s just got a kind attitude and he’s a really welcoming kind of bloke.”

Brown’s hard-working approach in attack provided a vital chop-out for his vice-captain. Petrie had arguably his best game of the year, pulling down 11 marks.
Despite criticism surrounding his recent form, the number 20 has the support of those around him.
“While Drew might not have been pulling down the big marks, his pressure and tackles and the team things that we really want him to do, he was definitely doing earlier in the year as well,” Brown added.
“Last night (Sunday) he clunked a few more marks which was always going to come for a bloke who’s a superstar like Drew. I think he’s just going to keep on going from strength to strength.”
