Key match-ups:
1. Daw v Lachie Keeffe
"Keefe picked up big Maj when he went up forward, so that was a pretty good battle." - Senior Development Coach Gavin Brown
2. McGenniss v Kyle Martin
"Kyle had the better of Tim. He got a fair bit of the footy in the first quarter. Then unfortunately Timmy hurt his shoulder early in the second quarter and he couldn’t take any further part in the game. That was disappointing for him."
Story of the game:
"They (the Magpies) pretty much controlled the game and had the momentum from start to finish. They looked like they worked a bit harder than us and in the conditions they were a bit harder at the contest.
"John Lamont (Werribee coach) said we needed to be smarter with the way we were using the ball. We ended up having more handballs (140 to 121), yet they had more kicks 238 to our 178. It just shows that they played the conditions smarter than we did. I think we were trying to play dry weather footy, particularly early.
"We also didn’t get enough forward entries - they smashed us in the inside 50s, 32 to 58." - Gavin Brown
Points of interest:
1. Taylor Hine continued his good recent form.
"Hiney battled pretty hard today. He was under siege down back for most the day obviously.
"I thought he really competed pretty strongly. He ended up getting a little bit of the footy. He was one of our better players because he really worked hard." - Gavin Brown
2. On a tough day for talls, Majak Daw excelled at the defensive side of the game.
"His eight tackles were terrific and most of those were when he was in the ruck.
"He went reasonably well in the ruck today and his follow-up work was good, hence his tackles. He went forward late in the game and took some crucial marks late in the last quarter. He didn’t get a lot of the footy but he certainly battled away." - Gavin Brown
3. Kieran Harper was another who found the conditions tough, but battled hard all day.
"He started in the middle, and played mostly there and up forward. He didn’t have a lot of the footy, but pleasingly he had eight tackles which shows he was in there trying to get the footy back off them." - Gavin Brown
4. While he hasn't been a prolific ball-winner this season, Kayne Turner's development has been encouraging.
"When he did get it he was productive. With those 11 possessions, he made things happen.
"He was efficient... it wasn’t his best game, but I thought he was out there having a go." - Gavin Brown
Most likely call-ups: Taylor Hine, Majak Daw
