One of the greatest exponents of Australian Rules Football on the Friday night stage, Wayne Carey is set to make a return to the blockbuster time slot, albeit in a different role.

The Age reports Carey will join Channel Seven’s marquee Friday-night commentary team, used during the match preview, quarter-time, half-time and three-quarter time breaks, as well as the post-match show.

The deal means the two-time premiership captain is likely to feature on North’s five prime-time games in 2014, starting with the Round 1 fixture against Essendon.

"It's been a gradual process coming back into the media and that's exactly what it had to be. I think now it's a really good balance," Carey told Fairfax Media last year.

"For me, it was about earning respect back and working hard.”

Tipped to be in consideration to replace Paul Roos on Fox Footy’s On The Couch, Carey will now appear solely on Seven’s AFL coverage.
