Every Wednesday, until footy returns, we'll be heading into the archive to recap some of the great games throughout North Melbourne's rich history.

This week, we take you back to 1991, and a classic match against the Adelaide Crows at the MCG.

When North Melbourne met the Crows on May 17, 1991, it was the travelling team's first ever trip to the home of football.

The first South-Australian team in the AFL was just seven games into its inaugural season, but with three wins to its name already, Adelaide had proven they'd be no easybeats.

While Tony McGuinness and Bruce Abernethy filled almost half of the squad's games' quota (223 of 462 games' experience), the Crows' youngsters had shown they could cut it at the highest level.

North on the other hand was in a building phase of its own; just three players boasted over 100 games, with the likes of Anthony Rock (27 games), Wayne Carey (33), Craig Sholl (29) and Anthony Stevens (23) ready to start making their mark on the game.

The Roos' oldest player, Matthew Larkin, was just 26. This was the early stages of a new, exciting era for the club.

On a Friday night at the 'G, it loomed as an intriguing clash between two of the league's more exciting teams.

The Crows got off to a flying start, and it seemed North was playing catch-up all night. But this had the makings of a memorable clash.
