Rookie Cameron Zurhaar has been recognised for his career-best performance on Sunday, named the Round 7 NAB AFL Rising Star.
The 20-year-old was sensational in North’s 58-point win, booting five goals and collecting 16 disposals.
“He’s an unbelievable player,” Todd Goldstein told RSN.
“The toughness that he brings to the contest, he’s very hard to tackle, he’s very hard to stop, and he’s been working really hard for the past few weeks he’s been back in the side after injury.
“He got a little bit of reward for that effort he’s been putting in.”
The forward returned to the senior side this season after a broken ankle brought a premature end to his 2018 season. After featuring in the VFL, Zurhaar earned a senior call-up in Round 4.
Since then, he’s impressed coaches, teammates and fans, by adding another dimension to North’s forward-line.
“Cam Zurhaar’s pressure is the hallmark of his game, and he was able to get on the end of a few finish a few today for us,” Scott told the media post-game.
“Cameron Zurhaar is 21 in two weeks and played just his 13th game,” Mark Robinson wrote in the Herald Sun.
“He kicked five goals from 12 kicks, took five marks and laid four tackles.
“The Roos love him because he has talent and he’s hard at it and, at 188cm, can apply elite pressure.
“Much has been said about Shinboner spirit. You’d think the old boys would like what they see in Zurhaar.”
A character around the club, Zurhaar will take it all in his stride.
“Cam’s very good at being himself,” Goldstein joked.
“He’s the type of bloke that will rock up wearing Crocs, he’s got a fascinating style.”
