Four new rules will be recommended to the AFL commission for the upcoming AFLW season.
The news comes after the AFLW competition committee met for the second time yesterday to review the trials of five rules staged in selected VFLW matches and the NAB AFLW U18 exhibition match.
Kick-ins from an extended 18 metre goal square, boundary umpire throw-ins brought in 10 metres, last disposal awarded between the 50m arcs, and centre bounce starting positions of 5-6-5 made it through the trial period while the only rule not to be recommended was reducing a legal kick from 15 to 10 metres.
“Potential shifts in rules will also need to be approved by the AFL Commission prior to the AFLW preseason commencing,” Nicole Livingstone, AFL head of Women’s Football, said.
Meanwhile Livingstone said the formation of the 2019 season was nearing completion.
“We are making great progress across numerous initiatives,” Livingstone said.
Besides rule changes, Livingstone said the fixture - also a hot topic of discussion - will be completed in October.
“We will be able to confirm the format of the 2019 NAB AFLW Competition after the AFL Commission formally approves our recommendations,” Livingstone stated.
