NORTH Melbourne skipper Brent Harvey has said that an all-round team effort was behind the Roos’ come-from-behind victory over the Power at AAMI Stadium.

The four-point win was North Melbourne’s third from its last four games, including a narrow victory over league leaders St Kilda last week.

Port Adelaide led at all changes on Saturday night, but the Roos took the lead early in the fourth quarter, and a late goal to Scott McMahon put North Melbourne ahead with just one minute remaining.

Harvey had a chance to seal the victory for the Roos a few minutes earlier, but missed a crucial shot at goal.

“I would have jumped off a bridge tonight if we lost, after I missed that late goal,” Harvey joked after the game.

“But we just stuck to our guns and worked super hard for each other.

“Our back line stood up, our forward line kicked the goals and our midfield was pretty good in winning the ball.”

Harvey was influential in the narrow win over the Power, with 24 touches and two late, consecutive goals that put the Roos in front for the first time in the match since the first five minutes.

He said that the victory was a fantastic win for the footy club, especially with such a young and developing group.

“To have a good win – a close win – it was really hard fought, but really good,” he said.

“It’s really good for our younger guys to experience a bit of that winning feeling and sing the song.”

According to Harvey, North Melbourne’s focus going into the game was win the hard ball gets and to play with passion, and that the club achieved both of these aims tonight.

“They were our main two aims, and I think we did pretty good at both. We knew it was going to be hard in these conditions, but it probably suited our game plan,” he said.

“Going forward, we can build a whole pre-season on the last four games. I reckon we’ve been pretty good.”

Harvey said that despite finishing in 13th position, the 2009 season has been crucial to the development of North Melbourne as a club.

“If I was going to rate our season out of 10, I’d probably say four.

“We’ve won seven games, we’ve had a lot of injuries, but I can really see a bright future for the footy club over the next few years and I’m pretty excited.”
