AFL Fantasy is back for another year, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2016 season.
While North Melbourne’s Round 3 win was an old-fashioned shootout, it wasn’t the highest scoring AFL Fantasy game.
But there was still a lot to take out of the game, including the performances of some of North’s most popular fantasy players.
As prices continue to fluctuate, Round 3 is an important round. It’s usually the round where players have the biggest price changes; for better or worse.
An interesting statistic from the round was Jack Ziebell’s record-equalling 19 tackles which resulted in 76 points from that alone!
Here’s how Footy Prophet’s North Melbourne Fantasy Five fared against the Demons.
1. Todd Goldstein (RUCK, $601,000)
Most people were enthralled by the battle between Todd Goldstein and Max Gawn, and fantasy coaches would’ve enjoyed every second of the match-up.
Goldstein finished with 149 points collecting 19 disposals, 38 hit-outs and a personal-best haul of five goals.
The premier fantasy ruckman of the competition scored 67 points in the first quarter in one of the most dominant performances you’ll ever see.
2. Brent Harvey (FWD, $469,000)
It’s amazing that Brent Harvey has never kicked six goals in a game before, but that and his 22 disposals saw him rack up 115 points.
Despite only being in 1,728 teams, Harvey continues to present himself as a viable option up forward with a strong average of 98.
In fact, it’s rare you find a player of Harvey’s calibre in so few teams, so bringing him in might be a masterstroke.
3. Jarrad Waite (FWD, $485,000)
Jarrad Waite has scored well for a third consecutive week and at this stage, you’d think he might have proven himself as a fantasy scorer, but don’t pull the trigger just yet.
Waite has averaged 112 points so far this year, but his scoring is heavily dependent on his goal kicking and even the best forwards have quiet days.
There are probably safer options, despite Waite’s strong start to the year.
4. Daniel Wells (MID/FWD, $360,000)
Wells had a quiet game, finishing with a respectable 76 points despite a slow start.
Wells started slowly and it didn’t seem to be his game, but a strong second half got him to a decent score.
At this point, virtually everyone you come up against in head to head will have Wells which really means you don’t have to worry about him too much.
5. Shaun Higgins (FWD, $447,000)
After a strong start to the season, Higgins has backed it up with two lower-scoring games and this week was no exception, finishing with 57.
After a strong first quarter, Higgins only scored 14 points in the second half and his price is now in trouble of dropping below $400,000 by the end of the fortnight.
Hopefully he can rebound and limit the damage next week.
