Jamie Macmillan classic finishes
The first: With North ten-points down in the first term, Daniel Wells pokes a clever pass into the path of Leigh Adams running through the middle. With not many options forward, Adams puts the kick out in front of Macmillan who's running inside 50. He runs on, sums up the situation and snaps a great goal from 40 metres to bring North's Western Australian supporters to their feet.
The second: From the opening bounce of the second quarter, North gets the clearance. The ball falls to the front of the pack after a contest at centre half-forward. The Eagles' Darren Glass is the first to win clean possession, but Macmillan reads the ball better than his opponent Andrew Gaff. Macmillan runs straight past Glass and kicks a brilliant goal giving his team the lead.
Brent Harvey goal from the boundary
North Melbourne trails by seven-points early in the match. Andrew Swallow has the ball across half-forward and kicks into the path of the leading Harvey.
Harvey is unable to mark but importantly keeps his feet, while his opponent Scott Selwood goes to ground. Harvey is first to recover the loose ball and although he has a couple of options in the middle, elects to go it alone. From the tightest of angles, he kicks a wonderful goal.
Daniel Wells goal on the run
The Kangaroos hold a two-point lead at the 17-minute mark of the second quarter. Harvey has the ball inside his opposition 50 and spots Wells in open space ahead of him. Rather than putting it to Wells' marking advantage, the former captain chips it out in front of him and allows him to run on.
Quinten Lynch is the chaser but has no hope of catching the brilliant Wells. He takes three bounces and moves to the 50 metre arc before seeing Scott Selwood approaching. Wells has the presence of mind to kick the ball high to avoid it being smothered and though the ball spins awkwardly through the air, it eventually sails over the goal umpire's head.
Drew Petrie assist/Ben Cunnington goal
West Coast is threatening to blow the game open and North needs an early goal in the premiership quarter. Enter Petrie.
Kept quiet for much of the day, Petrie pounces on a loose ball following a terrific Kieran Harper tackle on Matt Rosa. He sees Leigh Adams running past on the 50 metre line and instead of taking the time to gather, taps it cleverly into the arms of his team-mate.
In the meantime, Cunnington has worked hard to get free off the back of the pack, meaning Adams only has to handball to his advantage to ensure a certain goal.
Leigh Adams hard at the footy
North's best performer in the first half, Adams drifted out of the game in the third term but was desperate to have an impact when it mattered.
On the wing he lays a tackle on Matt Rosa, forcing the ball loose, then with Chris Masten coming the other way he hits the pack hardest. Masten is knocked to the ground, while Adams sets up a goal-scoring opportunity for his team with a clever dish to Aaron Mullett.
The ball ends with Liam Anthony who's unable to finish, but the chance would never have arisen if not for the courageous effort of Adams.
