Not only has Bailey Scott impressed those at North Melbourne in his first few months at the club, but the draftee has also caught the eye of one of the game’s most respected voices.
Brownlow medallist and three-time All-Australian, Gerard Healy, believes Scott is showing signs of becoming the steal of last year’s National Draft.
“This one has the capacity to really embarrass the recruiting fraternity,” Healy said on On The Couch on Monday night.
“At pick 49, to me, he’s already looking like the steal of the draft.
“Good luck to the Kangaroos, you’ve found yourselves a winner.”
Bailey, the son of 1996 premiership player Robert Scott, has hit the ground running since arriving at Arden Street, being a prominent feature in the match simulations, intra-clubs and both JLT Series matches.
“(He was) taken at pick 49, and I know he’s a father-son (selection), but plenty of clubs could have nominated him earlier,” Healy said.
“Bailey Scott has come in and absolutely dominated for North Melbourne in the two JLT matches.
“He won it on the inside, he won it on the outside. He tackled ferociously, and kicked goals.”
Rewarded with the opportunity to show what he’s capable of against some of the game’s best in the pre-season, Scott embraced the moment.
In JLT1 against St Kilda, the winger eased into the match with 21 disposals, but the week later in Port Adelaide, the youngster found his feet collecting 19 disposals and two goals in just 58 per cent of game time.
The draftee has found himself working along some of the best wingmen in the business, with recruit Jared Polec and emerging Roo Trent Dumont working closely with Scott during the pre-season.
With the Round 1 squad set to be announced this Thursday, Scott will be hoping he can make his AFL debut against Fremantle, but understands if he misses out, the VFL will be the perfect opportunity to refine his craft.
