Todd Goldstein has joined the chorus of support for the permanent return of State of Origin football.

The North ruckman proudly donned the ‘Big V’ on Friday night, as Victoria defeated the All-Stars by 46 points, and says it was an experience he’ll never forget.

“I think there’s a real appetite for State of Origin footy,” Goldstein said on Triple M.

“I understand there’s a fair few logistical issues with how you do it, but for me personally and the chats I’ve had with people at the footy club, I think this time of year is the perfect time, if we could find a way to bring it in.

“If the footy clubs know it’s on, they can plan ahead. We are going to be playing two or three games in the pre-season anyway.”

Goldstein finished with eight disposals and 16 hit-outs in front of a capacity crowd at Marvel Stadium, and said he was amazed at the quality of the spectacle.

“The physicality probably wasn’t quite as high, but just the sheer speed of ball movement and the pace with which everything happened was probably the real intensity jump,” he added.

“We were all a bit shocked with just how fast the ball was moving, especially off the turnover … that was probably the biggest adjustment to make.”

Goldstein and Shaun Higgins both lined up for Victoria, while Ben Cunnington was withdrawn during the week due to soreness.

The one-off game was held to support efforts for Bushfire Relief.
