Nathan Grima’s first test
Nathan Grima won’t be lining up for North on Saturday, but there's a chance he could make his way back through the VFL.
If passed fit, the number 17 will play his first pre-season game for the Werribee Tigers on Sunday against Sandringham, and says he can’t wait.
“I would obviously love to be playing with the boys in the NAB Cup but I’m looking forward to getting out there and having a run with the Tigers on the weekend,” Grima told NMFC.com.au.
“It’s a really exciting time of year as a footballer but there is a long season ahead so as much as you’re itching to play as much footy as you can you also need to look ahead and manage your load.”
Grima trained well during the club’s main session on Wednesday and had a light run on Friday. He said his body is feeling good but a return to the Kangaroos' side won’t be rushed.
“I’ve just been on an individualised training program over the course of the pre-season and my main goal is to be right for the season proper,” he added.
“I’m really looking forward to getting out and having a kick this weekend if the medical staff give me the green light and at the same time I’ll be barracking for the boys down in Geelong.
“Hopefully we can make the NAB Cup Grand Final if the other results go our way. I would love to be out there.”
Ayden Kennedy, Ben Speight, Mason Wood, Taylor Hine and rookie Tim McGenniss played in the Tigers’ encouraging win over Williamstown last weekend and will all be looking to impress.
North Ballarat faces Geelong in a curtain-raiser to the North Melbourne game, and Todd Goldstein will be hoping to emulate the last time he played at VFL level, when he amassed 63 hit-outs.
The experienced ruckman’s inclusion will provide a helping hand for up-and-comer Ben Mabon in the middle.
Others North-listed players set to line up for the Roosters include Cam and Luke Delaney, Brad McKenzie, Cam Richardson, Tom Curran, Max Warren, and 2012 draftees Mitch Wilkins and Taylor Garner.
Eric Wallace will be looking to build on his experience with North Ballarat’s reserves side after booting his first goal last weekend.
