Sustained success is at the forefront of North Melbourne’s planning, CEO Ben Amarfio says.
Speaking on SEN, Amarfio spoke of the club’s desire to invest even more in its football department to achieve its goals.
“Ultimately, we all want a flag,” he said.
“We don’t just want ‘flash in the pan’ success. We want to be a sustained, successful club.
“Eventually we’d love to be a powerhouse. We’d love to be like Geelong, West Coast, Hawthorn, (Sydney) Swans.
“These are the clubs that have really set the tone for decades now.
“That’s where want to be, but that’s a long road. But it starts with hard work, and it starts with having the right people in the organisation, having the right spirit and performing on the track.”
Amarfio joined North in November, 2019, and despite only three months in the job, he says the entire club is heading in the same direction.
“There is a special spirit down at that club, which is infectious, and very real.
“We know that from a commercial perspective, our revenue, our assets, our membership are low.
“There has always been the thing about North Melbourne, ‘well it’s a small supporter base, so of course’, but I personally don’t want to use that as an excuse.
“I think that we have to raise the bar, we have to raise our expectations about being stronger financially, because we want to do that.
“We want to be stronger financially so we can invest more in our football programs, so we can be more successful.”
