After two seasons in the AFL, Luke Davies-Uniacke is putting himself in the best position to take his game to the next level in 2020.

The 20-year-old played much of this year with a shoulder issue after an incident in Round 2, but after his second reconstruction in four years, he’s feeling better than ever.

“It wasn’t real bad (the shoulder) but I played through the season with it,” Davies-Uniacke told Fox Sports.

“I hurt it more against the Bulldogs (in Round 10) but I chipped away with strengthening it and just got by.

“But after the Hawthorn game it was time to get it done. We couldn’t really play finals by that stage so ‘Shawry’ [Rhyce Shaw] decided to pull the pin on the year.”

Davies-Uniacke has played 21 games across two seasons, since being drafted with the fourth selection at the 2017 Draft.

He averaged almost 15 disposals a game in 2019, an increase from just over 10 in his debut year.

Following surgery in August, he's returned in great shape and been a strong performer on the track during pre-season.

“I’m back in full training. They are still holding me back a bit with things, but I’m being integrated into most things. After the Christmas break I will back into everything,” Davies-Uniacke said.

The youngster is keen to continue his improvement under a new coach, Rhyce Shaw.

“For me, personally, he (Shaw) has become a really good mate as much as anything,” Davies-Uniacke added.

“You see him as a coach and he has a way of growing the player-coach relationship to a point where he becomes one of your good mates.

“He has a lot of trust in me and is always pushing me along. He even does some of the extra running with me and it isn’t something you see with coaches. He trains with us sometimes and does extra running.”
