On the eve of Anzac Day, the North Melbourne Football Club pays tribute to former players who lost their lives at war.

Alf Goonan: Debuted for North Melbourne at the age of 21 in the club's first year in the VFL. Kicked 12 goals in 1925, and played a total of seven games for the club over two seasons.

Goonan was killed in the 2nd World War on January 22, 1942 in Malaya.

George Brock:
Recruited from Port Adelaide, Brock debuted as a 22 year-old and played four games for North Melbourne in 1941, kicking three goals.

Brock was killed in an aircraft accident on August 2, 1941 near the You Yangs, Victoria.

Len Johnson: After 64 games with Essendon and 85 goals, Johnson joined North Melbourne in 1933 and went on to play five games for the season.

Johnson was killed in the 2nd World War on January 24, 1942 near Singapore, Malaya.

Beres Reilly: After representing a Victorian schoolboys' team, Reilly tried out with Footscray. After failing to break into the team, he moved to North Melbourne and played eight games for the club over two seasons. Reilly moved on to represent both Melbourne and St Kilda in the VFL.

Reilly was killed when his Baltimore bomber crashed over Crete on July 23, 1943.

Bert Peters: Originally from Wonthaggi, Peters debuted for North Melbourne in 1930 at the age of 21. He went on to play 17 games and kicked three goals over two seasons with the club.

Peters was killed in the 2nd World War on June 13, 1944

Mo Shapir:
Recruited from Melbourne High School, Shapir was a lively rover and handy cricketer. He played three games for North Melbourne in 1935.

Shapir was killed in the 2nd World War on August 15, 1942 in the Middle East.
