North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson says his side is determined to make amends for Sunday’s poor showing.

Speaking to Tasmania’s The Mercury newspaper, Thompson said there was plenty of room for improvement, following an in-depth review of last weekend’s loss to Collingwood.

“Everyone was shattered and so disappointed after the game, to give up that kind of lead and after playing that well in the first half and having the polar opposite in the second half,” Thompson said.

“It has been one of our most disappointing losses, definitely. It was very disappointing to see our mindset change in the second half and it was just a few little things that all of us were doing.”

Following the loss, the club confirmed coach Brad Scott would miss the next four weeks after undergoing back surgery, but Thompson said the news hadn’t rattled the playing group.

“Most people knew he had a sore back at the club and we’re ready to take the responsibility on of helping share the workload,” the number 16 said.

“He is going to miss a few games, but the players are capable of stepping up and taking a bit of ownership of the team.”

With the Roos headed south to Hobart on Sunday, Thompson said he was hopeful his side would continue its winning way in the Apple Isle against an in-form Eagles side.

Thompson could again line up on Josh Kennedy, who sits atop of the goal kicking charts after 10 rounds.

“I’ve played against him in the past … he is in some cracking form but not the only one from their team in good form.”
