Bringing some Easter joy
The joy of Easter came early at Arden Street for eight very special kids from the Royal Children's Hospital.
On Thursday, Jack Ziebell, Todd Goldstein, Aaron Black and Ben Cunnington hosted the youngsters for an Easter egg treasure hunt in the back of two Mazda BT-50s.
Maisie, Justin, Ayva, Jorja, Crennan, Bonnie, Chase and David are among thousands of kids who spend time in the Royal Children's Hospital with health difficulties. But a trip to the Kangaroos' nearby training base brought smiles all around, and just as importantly, an opportunity to raise awareness for Run for the Kids.
"Run for the Kids is a fun way to get involved, keep active and support an extremely worthy cause," North coach Brad Scott said.
"Several of our players have young families of their own and need the help of the Royal Children's Hospital from time to time like many parents do.
"Unfortunately too many kids spend lengthy amounts of time in hospital, so raising money and awareness is the least we can do to help."
Run for the Kids sees thousands of Victorians converge on Melbourne's CBD to race in either 5.5km or 15km courses. Last year, over $2 million was raised for the Royal Children's Hospital's Good Friday Appeal.
Just one of thousands of little miracles receiving treatment at the hospital is Maisie Cruickshank.
Maisie, 7, was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was just two years old. Her dad Stephen has pushed her in a pram during Run for the Kids for the past four years, but this year Maisie is healthy enough to run for the first time.
North Melbourne will host a range of activities on Good Friday to raise money and awareness for the Royal Children's Hospital. NMFC.com.au will have further information in the coming days.
