Daniel Wells’ amazing skills have always been a feature of his game, and his ability to do the seemingly impossible was on show again on Saturday.

Shadowed by Jack Grimes with just two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Wells read the ruckwork of Todd Goldstein brilliantly. He pounced on a loose ball at ground level, soccered off the ground into the forward pocket and gave chase.

Being held he lost his feet, but the contest wasn’t over. Wells gathered with his left arm, somehow managed to move the ball across to the right side of his body and threw the ball onto his boot; the result, an amazing goal.

Commentator Dwayne Russell labelled the effort ‘one of the goals of the year’, and the judges agreed, with Wells in the running alongside Dustin Martin and Lance Franklin for Round 18.
