At the end of each season, there is the obligatory discussion about who could take “Charlie” home. Footy fans stretch their memories back to games played several months prior in an effort to identify their club’s best chance at winning the coveted award.

This year NMFC.com.au is asking for your help to determine the three best players from each game and you can vote in the Mazda Spirit Awards for your best three Kangaroos.

North Melbourne may have come out of Friday night’s clash without the four points, but the Roos arguably had the better of general play and could still feature in the Brownlow Medal votes.

Here is the case for each of the players in the running for the votes, in alphabetical order. We’ll pick our 3-2-1, then you can have your say.

Trent Dumont – NMFC

Able to take more responsibility in the midfield due to the absence of Andrew Swallow and Ben Cunnington, the 20-year-old thrived.

With 24 disposals, seven clearances and seven tackles, it was one of Dumont’s best games in the blue and white.

Jordan Lewis – Hawthorn

The Hawks’ best midfielder on the night, Lewis more than doubled any of his teammates’ clearance efforts.

Lewis’ 11 – along with 31 disposals – were far and away ahead of the next Hawk, Sam Mitchell on 5.

James Sicily – Hawthorn

Four of Sicily’s five goals came in the second half, as he turned out to be the most influential of the forwards on the ground.

Robbie Tarrant – NMFC

Surely on his way to an All-Australian berth, Tarrant was again a brick wall down back.

Not only was he excellent defensively, but Tarrant also had a career-high 26 disposals to round out his game.

Daniel Wells – NMFC

No Roo had more than Wells’ 30 disposals and nine clearances. Coming off the back of his 31 disposals against Geelong last week, it’s the first time the midfielder has had 30+ disposals in consecutive games since Rounds 13-14, 2012.

Mason Wood – NMFC

With 20 disposals – 14 of them contested – it was only some inaccuracy which prevented Wood from taking the game by the scruff of the neck. A return of 2.3 could easily have been four or five goals on a better day.
