North Melbourne is hopeful both Drew Petrie and Robbie Tarrant will be fit to play in Saturday’s preliminary final.

Speaking to SEN’s Morning Glory on Monday, North Director of Football Geoff Walsh said both were recovering well.

Walsh said Petrie would be given a “light” week on the training track to ensure he was ready for the rigours of a final.

“(He’s pulled up) as well as you can expect with the type of corkie knock that it was, we’ll just see how he progresses during the week and give him a reasonably light week, but at the same time making sure he gets every opportunity to show he’s fully recovered and can play,” Walsh said.

“And similarly with Robbie, he felt more like a cramp in the warm up, rather than actually tearing anything. So we’ll treat that symptomatically throughout the week and see how he responds.

“Right now, we’re cautiously optimistic for both of them.”

Meanwhile, Walsh said veteran Daniel Wells was still in contention for a return this weekend.

“He’s improving each week. He hasn’t played since round two, so the longer he doesn’t play, the bigger the dilemma is,” Walsh added.

“Having said that, he’s such a one touch player, such a class player, so while you wouldn’t rule him out, it goes against history, doesn’t it?”

Walsh said the Roos weren’t planning on changing any of their normal pre-game routine for this week’s final, with the club’s final training session to be held in Melbourne on Friday.

“Our travel to Perth is set - we’ll train here in the late morning (on Friday) and get an early afternoon flight to Perth,” Walsh said.

“That’s been our routine for a couple of seasons now, and it would be folly to change that ... we’ll stick with the same routine.”
