AFL Fantasy is back for another season, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2015 season.
Shaun Higgins and Brent Harvey led the way for North Melbourne on the fantasy scoreboard, the only two Kangaroos to score more than 100 points.
Up against the competition leaders, North had to fight for every possession and were made to work for its fantasy points.
Higgins ($405,000) had 16 touches, nine marks ,nine tackles and a goal. He had Clancee Pearce to contend with and definitely held his own. Despite Fremantle’s pressure, Higgins’ use of the ball was sublime. Roaming around half-forward, the former Bulldog consistently found space and used his opportunities to good effect.
The 27 year old has now had two good fantasy games in a row, which will please his owners no end. Next week he’ll face Collingwood, a team he usually struggles to build a strong score against. Considering his strong current form, Higgins is in a prime position to turn the record around.
Meanwhile Harvey ($453,000) owed most of his scoring to his 24 possessions, although he also had six marks and a goal, a nice running effort mid-way through the third. The veteran had an influence all over the ground and scored his first fantasy ton of the year.
Harvey shared the highest possession tally with the two Ben’s – Cunnington ($415,000) and Jacobs ($369,000) – who both scored 81 points.
Cunnington threw himself into the fray in the absence of Andrew Swallow, with 18 of his 24 disposals contested, and laid six tackles. In defence, Jacobs was the main rebounder, his 24 disposals delivered at a very pleasing 91 per cent efficiency rate.
Up forward, Drew Petrie ($444,000) had a strong fantasy game, despite not kicking any goals this week. He scored 93 points on the back of 15 possessions, nine marks and six tackles.
Around the Grounds
For the football aficionado, Saturday night’s blockbuster between Hawthorn and Sydney had the makings of a classic. It was a high-pressure affair with everything a fan could want; big goals, fierce tackles and a nail-biting finish.
The matchup also generated considerable fantasy value. Five players on both teams cracked the fantasy ton, made up of a mix of household names and left-field surprises.
For Sydney, it was all about Dan Hannebery ($554,000), who was allowed to run free while a number of his team mates copped closer attention. He collect 36 possessions, four marks and four tackles, for a final score of 119. Luke Parker ($561,000) also continued his recent hot form with 116 fantasy points.
For Hawthorn, Sam Mitchell ($555,000) had to contend with Ben McGlynn ($496,000), but came out on top with 32 possessions and five tackles. He was in the thick of it when Hawthorn were surging. Isaac Smith ($604,000) extended his fantasy ton run to five games with a score of 106.
Jonathon Ceglar ($403,000) also had a very good day out. Up against the colossal Mike Pyke ($358,000), Ceglar took the ruck honours with 29 hit outs, and also had a great impact around the ground. He finished up with 16 possessions, seven tackles, and an opportunistic goal.
