Todd Goldstein says the Roos will need to be at their best to overpower Collingwood on Sunday.
Goldstein told the Herald Sun’s Sam Landsberger at a photo shoot for club partners Blackwoods & The Workwear Group, the playing group was aware of the effort needed to take all four points in the club’s first hit out at the MCG this season.
“When we’re bad we probably only have two or three players that are consistently chipping in, whereas the games we win we’ve got 22 players all playing their role,” Goldstein said.
“We’ve just been a bit off. And when you’re a bit off for four quarters it adds up to a big margin.”
The ruckman said Sunday’s clash was an important one given the club’s 4-4 record.
“We’re at a turning point now, the season could go one of two ways,” Goldstein said.
“The next month before we get to the bye is massive for us to really build some momentum.”
Teammate Jamie Macmillan agreed, saying Sunday would be a big test for North.
“Collingwood’s a good side and if we don’t play our way it’ll certainly be another 10-goal loss,” Macmillan said.
“Three 10-goal losses this year is not ideal but it’s about finding a way to, when we’re under the pump, to wrestle momentum back and find a way to limit that damage.”
Jack Ziebell said he and his teammates were excited at the thought of returning to the MCG for the first time since the finals’ triumphs in 2014.
But last year’s wins at the home of football haven’t been front of mind, Ziebell said.
“We haven’t thought too much about last year because that was last year and it finished on a sour note,” the number 7 said.
“That really drove us through the pre-season and into this year and we’ve had a few disappointing results so far this year but we’re really looking to get back on track this week and play four quarters of consistent footy.”
