AFL Fantasy is back for another season, and the team at Footy Prophet will again be supplying NMFC.com.au with premium fantasy analysis and tips for the 2015 season.
North has a blockbuster meeting this week, going head-to-head with the Power in what shapes as the match of the round.
For fantasy coaches, it’s an exciting game. In addition to all of North’s stars, we’ll get to see the likes of Travis Boak, Robbie Gray, Brad Ebert and Ollie Wines doing what they do best – rack up fantasy points.
On the topic of North though, there’s one man who demands attention this week, after a simply incredible performance in round two - Todd Goldstein.
37 hitouts. 23 disposals. Seven marks. Eight tackles. One beautiful snap goal. All of it added up to 153 fantasy points for Goldstein, the highest score of any player last round.
We talked a fair bit in the pre-season about Goldstein as a fantasy option, his good form at the end of last year and the promise of adding more aggression to his game. We saw that aggression in action last week, and it made him the best player on the ground.
At $522,000 in AFL Fantasy Classic, Goldstein doesn’t come cheap, but our advice is to grab him while you can before his value shoots up.
Port’s Matthew Lobbe is still out with a quad injury, so Goldstein will be doing most of his ruck-work against Paddy Ryder on Saturday night.
Usually having to battle two opponents, the Roos' big man will get a chance to work his oppponent over all night, and looks good for another big score.
Unfortunately, there’s some bad news as well for North fans, and that’s Nick Dal Santo’s hamstring. The former Saint is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, which is rotten news for those who have him in their fantasy teams.
We’ll take a quick second here to say congrats to Dal Santo on an outstanding run of 104 consecutive AFL games.
Ryan Bastinac is back in the side to replace his more experienced teammate after being omitted from the round two, and has a great to work his way back into the best 22.
We haven’t seen his best form in a while now, but keep an eye on him. At $425,000 in AFL Fantasy Classic, Bastinac might be worth considering – but only if he lifts his scoring output.
North’s one other change for the week is bringing in Robbie Tarrant to replace Joel Tippett, who has been omitted from the side.
Tarrant’s not traditionally a big fantasy scorer, and his new role as a key-defender isn’t going to help that. However, at the bargain basement price of $142,000 in AFL Fantasy Classic, he only needs to score a little to make money.
He’d be worth stashing on your bench to make some profits if you’re looking to find a new rookie defender this week.
Around the grounds
There’s a bit of uncertainty heading into Friday night’s clash between Collingwood and St Kilda with Scott Pendlebury and Nick Reiwoldt both having some injury concerns during the week. Both have been named, but if you have them in your fantasy teams you’ll want to follow the news right up until the buzzer to make sure they’re not late outs.
Saturday will bring some new faces as Adelaide’s Jake Kelly, Carlton’s Ciaran Byrne and Brisbane’s Harris Andrews all make their AFL debuts. Don’t dive on them just yet, but keep an eye on their fantasy production.
Sunday has some big games as well as the Dockers and the Eagles face off in another Western Derby, while the Suns will go Ablett-less against Geelong at Skilled Stadium, with both teams, surprisingly, still looking for their first wins of the season.
