Luke McDonald and Kayne Turner are set to line up in the VFL on Saturday, following their omissions from the North side.
The pair will take to the field for Werribee in its clash against Richmond at Avalon Airport Oval.
On Thursday, interim coach Darren Crocker said McDonald hadn’t had the start to the season he would have liked.
“We just felt that Luke hasn’t quite got to the level that he’d set himself last year,” he told NMFC.com.au.
“He’d even have higher expectations of where he’s at at the moment; he realises he’s not playing the type of footy that he’d like to play.”
McDonald last played at VFL level in 2013, while Turner will be hoping to regain touch after coming in and out of the side so far this year.
“With the limited impact he’s been having in games … we just felt he needs to go and really start to impact games a little bit more at VFL level,” Crocker said.
McDonald and Turner will be joined by Leigh Adams, who will aim to play a full game after making his return last week.
Will Fordham is another Kangaroo hoping to impress, while big men Daniel Currie and Majak Daw will look to continue their dominant form – the latter’s availability set to be decided when the Roos' final team is announced at 5pm EST, after he was named in the initial squad.
Mason Wood, Scott McMahon and Ben Brown are also awaiting their fate after being listed in the Roos’ 25-man lineup, while Kieran Harper will make his return from a knee injury.
At North Ballarat, Taylor Garner is aiming to build on his impressive comeback from a hamstring injury last week.
Aaron Mullett and Sam Durdin will likely share the defensive duties, with Brad McKenzie keen to find form on the wing.
Aaron Black will be important in attack, with Braydon Preuss also a key target for Gerard Fitzgerald’s men.
Ben Jacobs, Shaun Atley and Trent Dumont were all named on North’s extended interchange bench and will find out where they'll be playing at VFL or AFL level when the 22 is announced.
