HeartKids works closely with families who are dealing with the trauma of young kids with heart conditions, and the HeartKids team will also be rattling tins outside the ground on Saturday night.
Several HeartKids youngsters and their families were lucky enough to visit Arden Street recently, meeting the stars of the side and getting a chance to take part in a clinic on the famous Arden St oval.
Shinboner of the Century Glenn Archer and Swans' co-captain Jarrad McVeigh are both HeartKids Cup Ambassadors and have a close connection to the organisation.
McVeigh tragically lost his daughter, Luella, to a heart condition in 2011, while Archer’s daughter, Madison, was on the verge of suffering a heart attack back in 2007 when doctors discovered she had a massively enlarged heart.
Every day, eight Australians are born with heart defect – adding up to almost 3,000 people each year and childhood heart disease is Australia’s most common birth abnormality, which affects one in 100 children.
HeartKids offer their support to other families who are in crisis, providing opportunities to share common anxieties and challenges. They arrange, where possible, to meet with other families affected by the impact of life with a child with a cardiac condition and to create a ‘network of support’ for all families.
