North fans have voted in number to close the case on the Etihad roof debate.

Responding to an online poll on NMFC.com.au which asked whether the roof should be open or closed; the club received almost 1,500 votes in just a few days and the result was lop-sided to say the least.

90 per cent of those polled demanded the roof be shut for future North games while just 10 per cent said they preferred it open.

The outcome of the poll flies in the face of the AFL's mystery pre-season survey, which controversially suggested 60 percent of supporters preferred the roof open.

The debate was reignited over the weekend when the AFL trialled a partially open roof for the last round of NAB Challenge matches to minimise the sun-glare.

The experiment was an utter failure however with players such as Todd Goldstein claiming he was blinded during the match against Richmond.

Brad and Chris Scott along with Damien Hardwick slammed the decision to have the roof ajar and called on the AFL to change its policy, while the broadcasters have also voiced concerns.
