Essendon is facing another significant distraction on the eve of the Finals with reports Paddy Ryder could quit the club at the end of the season.

Major media outlets suggest the ruck/forward’s management is looking at triggering a breach-of-contract clause that would allow him to depart as a delisted free agent.  The AFL Commission passed the new rule, after it was pushed by the AFL Players' Association.

With two years left on his contract, the it’s believed the 26-year-old wants to join Brisbane and could use the Essendon drugs crisis as his reason for invoking the clause.  Brisbane recently declared it had a massive amount of salary cap room estimated at about $1.6 million.

Fairfax Media says Ryder's manager, Paul Connors, has already spoken to the Lions and Giants and that the Bombers are well aware of the situation.

The AFLPA believes Essendon was in breach of its duty of care to its players in 2012 and took calls from managers regarding the rights of players.
