It’s recently been argued that Ben Cunnington deserves more recognition after winning North’s best and fairest award last season, and now the accolades are finally arriving.
The 23-year-old has been named in the Herald Sun’s Top 50 players of the competition, coming in at number 45.
“Sneaking up on the competition as a hard-ball and clearance master. Won North's B&F in a team with some talent and by season's end should be known - by sight - by everyone following the sport. Just a small dig there, but he really is unobtrusive how he goes about it,” Mark Robinson said.
Robinson also named Todd Goldstein at 33 – North’s highest ranking on the list. His spot one below Adelaide’s Sam Jacobs.
“Hitout to advantage specialists and while he's no Speedy Gonzales, he covers the ground OK. Yes, I can't separate them.”
Veteran Brent Harvey is no stranger to the top 50 and finds himself back on the list in 36th.
“How he missed All-Australian last year was a joke,” Robinson claimed.
“Anyway, he's not thinking about that now, he's thinking premierships. As a high half-forward, which allows him to go up and down the ground, there are few more damaging. Incredible really.”
