Despite finding the going tough early in his recovery from shoulder surgery, things are starting to look up for Aaron Mullett.

"It’s been eight weeks (since surgery). I've started strengthening my muscle up and running every second day," Mullett told NMFC.com.au.

"(I’m doing) a lot of cross-training, a lot of leg weights and shoulder IP (individual program), so the days have been pretty big, but I’m starting to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel."

A recent milestone moment has motivated Mullett to get back into North Melbourne colours.

"I’ve got most of my movement back which happened over the last week," he said.

"It pretty much happened overnight which was good, but strength I’m still a fair way away, probably another month or two.”

Mullett revealed his recovery from a torn labrum in his left shoulder hasn’t been all plain sailing.

"I think just an everyday struggle,” he said, describing the days immediately following surgery.

"It’s just hard to sleep, a lot of aching and getting the strong medication… it just throws you around a little bit.

"Just even looking at your body in the mirror; it makes you pretty flat because you’re left arm’s basically disappeared, so it’s going to take a little while to get that back now.”

Nevertheless, the support of team-mates kept Mullett on track, and now he’s eyeing a return.

"Everyone’s getting around me. They know how lonely it can be in rehab, so their making it pretty easy for me," he said.

"Round 7 is my goal and then hopefully play as minimal VFL footy as possible.

"Hopefully a month of VFL footy and I’ll be right to go, then I can play some good footy for North Melbourne.”
