With the end of the season approaching and North’s finals chances firming by the week, the match committee will be looking to settle the side down to achieve some continuity.
Although winning makes it easy to avoid swinging changes, injuries and suspension are always going to throw a spanner in the works. Last week it was Michael Firrito who was rubbed out, this time around Drew Petrie and Jarrad Waite were under the MRP microscope but were thankfully cleared of any wrongdoing.
While Aaron Mullett was injected into the game late as the substitute against Melbourne, he struggled to have an impact with just three disposals and failed to use the ball well when he did get it. The defender might be under pressure to retain his position along with mid-forward Taylor Garner who managed just 10 disposals.
NMFC.com.au looks at the possible replacements for the upcoming match against the Saints.
Forwards
A three goal haul from Majak Daw for Werribee has the athletic tall in contention yet again. Named as emergency for the senior side’s Round 19 clash with Melbourne, Daw could be an ideal fit.
Mason Wood is also pushing hard for a recall and gathered 20 disposals along with 14 marks for the Tigers.
For North Ballarat, Aaron Black was dynamic and slotted two goals from 13 disposals matched up on Geelong’s Jarred Rivers.
Kayne Turner could be eyeing off Garner’s spot after a productive day with Weriibee. The young forward had 14 disposals, 5 tackles and 1 goal.
Midfielders
Brad McKenzie’s recent form hasn’t gone unnoticed and the classy ball user notched up another 28 possessions for the Roosters to go along with 5 clearances and 4 inside 50's. The 22-year-old hasn’t played for the Kangaroos since Round 17, 2014 but is edging closer to another opportunity. His sharp work in close was a feature of his game.
Trent Dumont may have fallen off the radar in recent weeks but he is sure to come in for consideration after matching McKenzie’s 28 possession output playing for North Ballarat. His tackling was reportedly ‘outstanding’ and he was also tough in the contest. Dumont also had 7 clearances, 7 tackles and 8 one percenters.
Defenders
A week off will have done veteran Michael Firrito no harm. Sidelined for belting Matthew Kruezer, the 31-year-old could force someone like Mullett out of the side. A vital piece of North’s back six, Firrito is having another solid year.
North will no doubt be looking to get more game-time under Lachlan Hansen’s belt and it would be hard to see him being omitted.
If a change down back is to be made, Joel Tippett may be called on after excelling for the Roosters. He dominated Cat Nathan Vardy on Sunday in the VFL and made good quick decisions with the ball.
Meanwhile Scott McMahon had 14 disposals and 4 tackles in a typically reliable performance and is always ready should he be given the nod.
