Jamie Macmillan is in the running to make it back-to-back on Syd Barker Medal night, again nominated for the Peter Scanlon Community Award.

Presented to the player who has provided a valuable contribution to the community, the award also recognises the winner’s strong awareness of the importance of community engagement.

Sometimes it’s the little things which count the most as Macmillan discovered last year.

"…he (Macmillan) met a homeless man suffering from bowel cancer. He tried to arrange for the man, a mad North supporter, to attend the football, but this was not possible as the man was too sick,” Scanlon explained of Macmillan’s generosity.

"While many people would have left it at that, this young player arranged for the man to be visited by several of his teammates in hospital, and for him to receive a signed jumper.

"Over the year, his leadership and willingness to engage with a variety sorts of groups and individuals from all walks of life has been evident in many settings, including soup kitchens, community visits (especially to Skipton after the floods), The Huddle, schools, footy clubs and more."

2012 will mark the second year the award has been presented and won.
