The recent booing of Adam Goodes from opposition fans has reinvigorated the Swans, according to captain Kieren Jack.

“That’s one of our strengths that we want at this football club, we want to be tight, we want to be a tight playing group,” Jack said.

“We care about each other. We love Goodesy, there’s no doubt about that and he was probably going through some tough times there but we’re all here to support him and help him and he certainly knows that and we’ll continue to do that for the rest of his career.”

Goodes was booed by Gold Coast fans last week, making it the third week in a row. Despite the distraction, Jack said the 35-year-old Swans’ champion has played great football.

“It just shows the ability of someone to keep the focus on what’s important,” Jack said.

“I don’t think he gets too worried or distracted about what’s going on out there or what people are saying.

“It’s a lesson and experience he’s learnt through his whole career and that’s driving his playing attributes at the moment to be playing at a high standard, which he’s doing."

Dropped earlier in the season, Goodes sparked controversy in Indigenous Round after a premeditated goal celebration but hasn’t let the fall-out impact his on-field contribution.

“His form has been the byproduct of a lot of hard work prior to that," Jack said.

“The last three or four weeks he’s been super. He adds a different dimension to our forward line and he offers some headaches for the opposition side too because he’s a tall forward line player but he plays almost like a small.

“He’s still got that pace we know from Adam Goodes.

“He’s a champion and he’s a champion because he’s a real competitors.

“You don’t play that many games without having a real ruthless, competitive attitude and when he’s out there he demands the best of himself and wants to get the best out of himself and also for the better of the team.

“Goodesy’s attitude through being dropped has been fantastic for our entire playing list.

“What a great person he is to be able to do that. It was a selfless act for the team.”
